Gemini App Won't Load on Mobile: Fixes
The Gemini app on Android or iOS shows a blank screen, crashes on open, or never finishes loading.
Updated August 13, 2026
Mobile failures behave differently from browser failures because the app caches an assistant configuration locally. When that cache goes stale, the app can fail before it ever reaches the network.
Android
- Force stop the app, then open it again. This alone fixes transient launch hangs.
- Clear the app cache (Settings, Apps, Gemini, Storage, Clear cache). Do not clear storage unless the cache clear fails — that signs you out.
- Update through the Play Store. Gemini ships frequently and older builds are sometimes rejected by the backend.
- Check that the Google app itself is up to date, since Gemini depends on shared components on many devices.
iOS
- Swipe the app closed from the app switcher and relaunch.
- Check for an App Store update.
- Toggle airplane mode on and off to reset the connection, then retry.
- If the screen stays blank, delete and reinstall. Your conversations live in your Google account, not on the device.
Both platforms
Confirm the account signed into the app is the account with Gemini access. Work or school accounts frequently have Gemini disabled by an administrator, which presents as a blank or endlessly loading screen rather than a clear error.
If the app fails on both mobile data and Wi-Fi and the web version also fails, treat it as a possible incident and see Is Gemini down right now?
